FAQ
General
Are professional photos and video available?
- Yes, they are included with your entry fees.
- On the day of the competition, photos and a 10-second video of each performance are available within a few minutes following the routine. This is dependent upon the venue's Internet connection.
- Within 48 hours of the end of the competition, full-resolution photos and the full routine video will be available
Why do you cut off entries at 300 routines?
- We do not dance on Sundays or early on Fridays
- We like to have fun, exciting competitions. We believe the competition experience should also be a family experience. This is difficult to achieve when routines are performing at late hours.
- We love our judges. Our wonderful judges are passionate about dance, but they are also human. We like to give them frequent breaks so they can recharge and be sharp for all routines.
Why do you start the competition prior to the first
scheduled routine each day?
- Dance competitions are an event just like any other, so we start each day at least 5 minutes early so we can say a prayer to bless our dancers, audience, and staff. We also take the time to perform our National Anthem.
Why am I not able to take photos or video during the competition?
- For the safety of all dancers, we do not allow photos or video. We do not know WHO is taking the photos and video and therefore cannot be assured that the photos/video are being taken by family members.
- For the protection of choreography. Again, we do not know WHO is taking the photos/video nor do we know for what purpose.
- Believe it or not, some folks forget to turn off their flash or spotlight. This is at a minimum distracting to the dancers and at worst a safety concern for them. It also doesn’t win any friends in the audience.
Pricing
Where can I get pricing information for my dancers?
- Please see your Studio Owner for pricing information.
- If you are a Studio Owner and need to request pricing information, please email us at dance@starlandproductions.com
What level does my routine need to register for?
- Ultimately, it is up to the Studio Owner to properly place each routine in one of our 3 levels – Recreational, Advanced (Intermediate), or Elite.
- We have some guidelines listed on our “The Details” page to assist Studio Owners in placing their routines.
Starland Media
My routine’s media is unavailable, but a routine that performed afterward is available
- Some venues do not have good or consistent Internet connections. If we lose Internet for a period of time, the routine’s media queues so it can upload as soon as Internet is restored. Unfortunately, the routines are not queued in order and some later routines may be uploaded first. As long as there is a persistent Internet connection, the routines will eventually catch up and your media will be available.
When are the full-resolution photos and full video available?
- These will be available within 48 hours of the end of the competition; however, most of the time they are available within 24 hours.
How do I access my dancer’s photos and video?
- Photos and video are available using the Dakiki app, which was developed by DanceCompGenie.
- On the day of the competition, photos and a 10-second video of each performance are available within a few minutes following the routine.
- For your dancer’s protection, you will need to have their name and date of birth in order to access their media. This information is derived from their registration, so if any of the information is incorrect, your media will not be available. If you feel your dancer’s information is incorrect or you are getting errors, please see the concession stand for assistance.
My dancer’s routine has performed, but is listed in the app as
“Not Performed”
- Initial media (photos, and 10-second video) should normally be available within a few minutes of the performance ending; however, we are at the mercy of Internet connections. If our Internet is lost or interrupted, the media is queued to upload as soon as Internet is restored.
Awards
Staff awards
- Our staff really enjoys competition day and some of their roles are more technical in nature; therefore, they are not trained dancers. Sometimes they see something that makes them happy and want to give their own award. They are random, fun, and definitely not based on dance technique, because they don’t know any.
Special awards
- Trophies are awarded for Most Entertaining and Choreography
- These awards are unanimous decisions by the 3 Judges
What awards do you give?
- Every routine receives an adjudication award (Diamond, Platinum, Gold, or Silver).
- Each dancer in a solo, duo, or trio receives the adjudication award.
- All group routines receive an adjudication award and all dancers in the group receive a StarLand pin.
Overalls
- Routines are grouped by Level, Age, and Division (Solo, Duo/Trio, Group, etc.).
- The top 1, 2, or 3 routines (based on number of entries) are awarded an Overall.
- If there are more than 10 routines, then up to 10 placements will be recognized and awarded a medal.
- If there are more than 8 routines in a particular category (Ballet, Tap, Jazz, etc), they will be awarded overalls, etc. separately.
High Scores
- Routines are grouped by Level (Recreational, Advanced, Elite) and Division (Solo, Duo/Trio, Group, etc.).
- The highest score is awarded our High Score of the Competition award
